The Final Working Years

I thought my 50s would be a fairly straight run towards retirement. It turns out the final working years can still change direction completely.

This isn't career advice, and it isn't a lifestyle blog. It is a record of real decisions made when retirement had stopped being something vague in the distant future.

Some of the opportunities were planned. Most were not. Work changed, health changed how I looked at time, family life changed, and I found myself making choices I had not expected to be making in my 50s.

Each story sticks to three things: what happened, what changed in how I judged it, and what question somebody else might ask themselves.
